Photographing Prints

Finally started to document my work… which was quite the challenge. I think the hardest part was working my complicated camera (so many buttons). I managed to figure out that outdoor lighting works much better then indoor lighting. I am now finished with 5 of the 9 prints i need to complete for my BFA show. That being said i am going to take a little break and work on a side print to clear my mind for a week or two. I am starting to get restless with my BFA prints- and I think with some time off i will hopefully have another rush of inspiration.

Vintage Fabric

I think Valentines Day has brought out the crafy side in me. I have all these great card ideas flouting around in my head at the moment… the one that excites me the most involves vintage fabrics. I was delighted to find a few sites that sold cheaper vintage fabrics: reprodepot.com. I will be saving this project for the summer since I have a lot of things going on right now.

New Beginnings

What a bittersweet feeling. My landlord called me to inform me that this Monday he will be showing my apartment. I know I still have a few more months of being a student/living the boulder life, but his call really made me think about the future. I stayed this extra year so that I could do the BFA and get my life in order before graduation, and I feel like I am exactly where I was at this time last year. I need to start looking for a job, and I need to also start deciding on a living situation for summer. But at the same time I want to just take the next few months and be lazy… because this will probably be one of the last times in my life where I don’t have a 9 to five work day and real priorities to deal with.

I still have priorities I suppose, but ones that I am actually excited about. I finally feel like I know what I am going to do for my BFA show-, which is exciting. There is a big group this year- about 19 students, so space will be much more limited then last semester. I am trying to see this as a positive thing. I think with more people the show will be that much more great! Because I don’t have unlimited space I am going to work on a series of small prints (10 x11)…. This way I can enter several. My proposal will be for 9 prints, which will be displayed in three rows.

I just dropped my geography class, so I am only in nine credits at the moment… which I love! I have my BFA seminar and my two print classes. This semester is going to be about me….because it’s starting to hit me that it will be my last one ever.

How cruel! The weather has been nice for several days now… I mean nice nice! Its tricking me into thinking its Spring already-boo. Its just a matter of time before the storms come, and then it will be back to shoveling my poor Jetta out of the snow L Addi seems to like it because the squirrels have come out from hiding.

Besides the squirrels… the weather has brought out all sorts of weirdos! There is this girl who around lunch the past few days bikes through my neighborhood singing opera at the top of her lungs- so bizarre!

On a much more serious note- LOST starts tonight, and I couldn’t be more excited J I have been having serious with drawls. Danny is going to drive up after work and come watch it with me. And then this Sunday I will help him move into his new apartment in Denver.

Slum Dog

Today Danny and I went to go see Slum Dog Millionaire. Although it was hard to watch at times- i loved it! The Cinematography was just lovely, and it was a somewhat happy ending which I can’t help but like. I just love the type of movies that make you think after you watch them..

Pin Cushion Fun

I finally got to talk to De yesterday!! I really wish she was still living in Colorado cause I miss her so much We always seem to catch each other at inconvenient times. This time she was at Micheals shopping for a cheap-ugly-cat?-pincushion for fashion school (yes I am secretly jealous). Anywho I had been surfing etsy the other day and had actually come across an adorable cupcake pincushion. If I were still sewing i would have totally splurged and bought one for myself. Needless to say I bought one for De who will actually use it-unlike me

Now i am off to Hice’s to have dinner. I love dates at her sorority (free food!)… and catch up time.

I really need to get back to school… or at least move back up to Boulder. Everyone down here goes to work. Which means countless hours of watching trashy reality tv. Its getting bad. However! Today I did manage to make a couple sketches . Hopefully I will be motivated enough to transfer it onto a pronto plate tomorrow.

Christmas Came Early

Eeeeeeeee I am so excited! I have my very own little press and it was completely free!!!! Long story short, my mom’s old job share partner had a brand new one just sitting around. She never used it because she thought the combination of elementary students and printmaking was a bad mix. Its so beautiful and new, and i am in love!!!

I also finished cutting out the design for our family christmas card. It only seemed appropriate to do a card revolving around the relationship of our dogs Sierra and Addison. Being so used to an older and trained dog, when spunky Addi was brought into our family things around here have def. been hectic- in a good way So I am going to spend this Thanksgiving break making over 150 cards plus some for the print club and a christmas exchange i recently signed up for.

My family took my dog for the weekend so I could actually get some stuff done. So I decided to organize and go through all my old prints. I have always been told to keep bad prints… but I am not a pack rat and they usually disgust me…. So I naturally throw them out. BUT! I decided to turn a hideous print I made last year into something I quite enjoy. I had made this 3-color-hand-drawn-litho-christmas robin/cityscape print (whoo), and some how butchered the last plate and it ruined the entire background. So I decided to cut out my favorite part of the print and that’s how I ended up with my lovely baggie prints

Quincy, Augie , Milton

I have no idea what I am going to do with them… probably give them away, or stick them random places.
