*dances around* ITS SUMMER!

Unfortunately I was unable to attend the visiting artists, being that I had a class during all of the scheduled events. Therefore, this is a bit overdue:
Stephen Vitiello:
Growing up in
New York City proved to be influential for sound enthusiast and installation artist Stephen Vitiello. Vitiello experimented with sound at a young age, creating experimental films which acted as stepping stones to a larger future in sound art. In an interview Vitiello is asked which plays a larger role in his work: the aural or the visual? Interesting enough Vitiello sees these two elements as separate. His end results focus more on sound elements, with the visual elements coming in second. To someone who has not seen Vitiello’s work, a picture does not do it justice. For example the photograph illustrating Crazy Wall Thing appears to be two instruments with several speakers attached to a wall. Without the sound the viewer has no sense of mood or meaning. Thus, Vitiello’s work requires more then just the visual sense

Visiting Artist: Jillian Mcdonald
April 25, 2007
Jillian Mcdonald’s ability to take the concept of a “relationship” and to turn it into an art from makes her work innovative and relatable. The extremeness of what she does is what makes her work unique. Originally from Canada, this New York artist works with video, performance and web art. Fascinated with the theme of fame, she incorporates her obsessions with her personnel life. This is illustrated in her two works: Me and Billy Bob, and Screen Kiss.
In Mcdonald’s playful but creepy documentation, she goes as far as making a drum solo for the actor, and tattooing her entire body with “Billy Bob.” On Mcdonald’s website she allows visitors to explore her fascination with the actor. From the events of Me and Billy Bob comes the video Screen Kiss. In this short video Mcdonald digitally manipulates kiss scenes from popular Hollywood movies in attempt to make Billy Bob jealous. Overall, I find McDonald’s work to be intriguing, I would go to say that she is borderline compulsive, but if you’ve got the passion to do it: go for it! I guess I shouldn’t tell her I had a run-in with Billy Bob a few years ago in a California hotel.
